WirelessCommunicationEngineeringCenter (WiCE) operates in coordination with "Challenging 2008 – the National Development Plan" aiming at turning Taiwan into an international innovative research and development center for the development of wireless communications and enhancing industrial competitiveness. System validation and verification platform for Radio Access Network technology plays an important role in the development of domestic wireless communication industry value chain. Consequently, Ministry of Economic Affair is actively promoting the establishment of national Lab, WirelessCommunicationEngineeringCenteror WiCE , which consolidate expertise of CSIST . WiCE is positioned as wireless communication system validation and verification platform, which will provides the field trial environment, system validation and verification solutions, and technology transfer and system integration solutions, etc. to satisfy the requirements of new technologies and test bed for product development. Time-to-market of new products in WiCE will be reduced by continuous developing of advanced dual-use technologies in broadband wireless communication, solid R&D infra-structure, and clustering of expertise. WiCE is aiming at strengthening the global competitiveness of Taiwan's Wireless communication industry and becoming a globally well-known center of excellence in wireless communication R&D.

Introduction

 
 

1. motivation
 "To setup the Wireless Communication Engineering Center (WiCE) in Long-Yuan research park by CSIST" was one of the important conclusions and handling principles made in the 8th SRB meeting held by Executive Yuan on July 29th ,1998 . After that , Executive Yuan approved the project to setup WiCE at CSIST on July 26th 2002 under the framework of "Challenging 2008 – the National Development Program" to set up the national level test & verification laboratory of wireless communication products to assist local industry to shorten the schedule of products development and test verification. The WiCE project was scheduled from 2003 to 2005.

 To be a world-class broadband wireless R&D center of excellence to connect with global market and technology development

3. positioning
 To be broadband wireless test and validation platform to provide test and validation service ,debugging service , technical consultant service and R&D cooperation to the government organization, private companies, academic campus and international companies.

4. development strategy
 (1)To encourage the formation of clustering effect in WiCE, as well as in LYRP, by providing incentives (expertise, technology and facilities access,
   total solution and one-stop service)
 (2)To provide a integrated service by strategic alliance with cooperation partners
 (3)To be unique contact window of CSIST's resources access

 To include core technology labs, product development labs, IP data management and operation & management group

7. inside WiCE
 A four-floor building with basement for parking lot, the total construction area is 20,798 square meters
 (1) 1st floor: Conference Hall, exhibition area, discussion rooms, restaurant, and wireless and EMC test Labs
 (2) 2nd floor: Core technology Labs and O&M offices
 (3) 3rd/4th floor: Product development Labs
